The Official Council of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Ali’s (AS) holy shrine held a meeting to investigate necessary measures for hosting millions of pilgrims during the last days of the lunar month of Safar.

According to Al-Alam news network, the meeting was attended by directors of different sections of the Astan.

Seyyed Nazar Hablulmatin, the custodian of the holy shrine, asked the participants to do their best to meet the needs of the pilgrims who will come to Najaf to attend mourning ceremonies on the occasion of the demise anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

He said that all of the sections should be ready to provide services to different groups of pilgrims, particularly the disabled, women and the elders.

The demise anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) will be marked on December 6 in Iraq, but the provincial council of the holy city of Najaf has also announced December 5 as an official holiday.

Mohammad Al-Khazayi, the director of the council’s information office, said that the decision was made to facilitate serving millions of pilgrims who walk from different provinces of Iraq to the holy city of Najaf.

The 28th day of Safar (the second month in the lunar Hijri calendar) marks the demise of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). The day also marks the martyrdom of the Holy Prophet’s grandson Imam Hassan (AS), the second revered Ahlul Bait Imam.

The martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Ahlul Bait Imam , who was martyred on the last day of Safar, will also be mourned by Muslims around the world.
