The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei has urged Muslim poets to highlight socio-political and anti-hegemony issues in their literary work.

Addressing literary figures and Persian language scholars from Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and India on Tuesday, the Leader emphasized that issues such as the Islamic Revolution and resistance against global hegemony should be manifested in the poets’ works.

“Today, the great historic movement of the Iranian nation inspires large human communities,” Ayatollah Khamenei underlined.

The Supreme Leader further highlighted several other topics that should be manifested in poems, including the Islamic Awakening, the issue of Palestine, and Iran’s 8-year sacred defense against the Iraqi-imposed war as well as struggles to build an Islamic community and reinforce national might.

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei also urged the literary figures to pay due regard to writing poems for children and young adults, emphasizing that concepts associated with Islamic and political wisdom should be included in the poems.

Prior to the Leader’s speech, a number of the poets present at the event recited their verses on a variety of subjects, such as ethics, religion and politics.
