The Indian government donated 16,000 kg of food to their 10,000 starving nationals living in Saudi Arabia, Times of India reported on Monday morning.

According to the Indian consulate, the food was distributed to their nationals in front of their offices in the Saudi port city of Jeddeh.

These 10,000 Indian nationals were laid off over the last few months by the Saudi companies that hired them to work in the country.

With Saudi Arabia’s poor economic climate hindering job growth, the country has been forced to lay off a significant number of migrant workers, leaving many starving in the process.

Making matters worse, the Indian nationals were stranded inside of Saudi Arabia with no way of traveling back to India – their government has intervened after the Al-Saud regime refused.
