Indian troops kill three in Kashmir

Paramilitary troops in Indian-administered Kashmir have opened fire on pro-independence demonstrators, killing three people and wounding several others.

Indian forces shot at people trying to block a highway in Palhalan village, a Press TV correspondent reported on Saturday.

The attack left two protesters dead and several others injured.

In a separate incident, one person was killed when Indian police fired at demonstrators in Anantag, south of the region’s summer capital of Srinagar.

Demonstrations in Kashmir continue despite a round-the-clock curfew. Kashmiri residents also defied the curfew in other major towns, pelting security forces with stones.

Security forces say they had to resort to force to disperse stone-throwing protesters.

The fresh protests come after three people were killed and another 20 were wounded in anti-India rallies on Friday.

Kashmir has been struggling with a wave of pro-independence protests after the death of a teenager back in June.

The unrest has claimed more than 102 lives over the past three months.
