Information Minister: Syria is Facing Real War

Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said that Syria is passing through difficult times and is facing an unprecedented real war on the political, media and economic levels.

During his meeting on Thursday with a group of young journalists at the Revolution Youth Union headquarter after completing a workshop in e-journalism, al-Zoubi said that the Syrian national media is coming under a fierce attack as evidenced in the attack on al-Ikhbariya TV which targeted the headquarter and buildings of the Channel and left a number of journalists martyred.

He added that the battle needs sacrifices, affirming that the terrorists won’t weaken the Syrian media or discourage it from conveying its national message.

He said that the war on Syria is primarily a war of media as Western and European sanctions were imposed on national media and the Arab League Council issued a decision to stop the broadcast of the Syrian satellite channels on Arabsat and Nilesat, hailing the role of the Syrian official media during the current crisis.

Al-Zoubi said that Syria is able to confront the crisis and emerge victorious, lauding the role of the national opposition that has become a real partner in the government.

He urged the young journalists to be careful in picking the words and vocabulary pertaining to the events at the current stage, voicing readiness to offer all kinds of support to the initiative of the youth and to enhance their skills.
