Saudi military aircraft have conducted a fresh round of airborne attacks against several areas across Yemen as Riyadh presses ahead with an atrocious military campaign against its impoverished southern neighbor.

On Saturday morning, massive explosions shook the Yemeni capital of Sana’a as Saudi fighter jets launched 17 airstrikes against al-Sawad military base south of the Yemeni capital, Arabic-language Yemen Press news agency reported.

There were no immediate reports of possible casualties and the extent of damage the assaults inflicted.

The development came on the same day as Saudi warplanes struck Dhabwah base of Yemen’s elite Republican Guard in Sana’a on five different occasions.

In retaliatory attacks, anti-aircraft missiles were fired from Yemen at the Saudi jets flying above, but the missiles failed to hit their targets.

Saudi warplanes also carried out ten airborne attacks against two schools in Maran district of the northwestern Yemeni province of Sa’ada on Friday.

Saudi jets also shelled Monabbih district of the same province. Moreover, a woman died from a heart attack caused by shock after Saudi aircraft pounded Razeh district, elsewhere in the province.

Saudi aircraft bombarded a naval base in Yemen’s western province of Hudaydah, and launched three airstrikes against a water reservoir in Abs district of the northwestern province of Hajjah.

Additionally, Saudi forces lobbed a number of mortar rounds at al-Marzaq district of Hajjah province. A similar incident was also reported in Yemen’s northwestern Razeh district.

Saudi Arabia has been conducting military strikes against Yemen since March 26. The Saudi attacks have been taking place without a UN mandate and in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and to restore power to fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.

The United Nations says that, since March 19, over 1,800 people have been killed and 7,330 injured due to the conflict in Yemen, which was exacerbated by the Saudi airstrikes.
