Insurgents smuggle arms into Syria through Turkey

Foreign-backed insurgents in Syria have taken control of the country’s Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey, which allows them to freely smuggle weapons into the Arab state,Press TV reports.

The border crossing which leads to the Syrian city of Aleppo has become a major route for the smuggling of oil, gas and weapons into Syria.

There has been a dramatic rise in weapons trafficking from Turkey into Syria amid escalating violence across the country.

While conducting interviews with the insurgents, calling themselves the Free Syrian Army, they would not allow the Press TV crew to capture their images on camera.

They, however, have told Press TV that the largest amount of their funds comes from Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Syria accuses Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey as well as some Western countries of fanning the flames of violence that have engulfed in the country since mid-March 2011.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar also publicity announced that they are supporting and arming the insurgents fighting the government forces in Syria.
