Iran FM in Pakistan for talks on Yemen crisis

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was given a warm welcome on his arrival in Pakistan.The top Iranian diplomat is in Islamabad for crucial talks with Pakistani authorities on wide-ranging issues.Shortly after arriving in the Pakistani capital, Zarif met the country’s National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz.The focus of their discussions was the current conflict in Yemen.Following talks, the two leaders called for a political solution to the Yemen crises.

Saudi Arabia is pushing Pakistan to join its military intervention in Yemen.The country’s parliament is currently debating as to whether Islamabad should join the Saudi-led military offensive against Ansarullah fighters in Yemen.But the main opposition parties have opposed Pakistan joining the military conflict.And the National Security Advisor admitted that the government may not be able to get the backing of parliament on the Saudi demand.

Iran’s foreign minister and Pakistan’s national security advisor also discussed bilateral relations including efforts to improve border security.The visiting Iranian foreign minister thanked Pakistan for expressing condolences over the killing of 8 Iranian border security guards. He says the two countries need to work together to fight the menace of terrorism.
