Iran, 6th in world in absorbing foreign investment

Islamic Republic of Iran has ranked sixth in absorbing foreign investment in the world, Head of control and guiding foreign investment projects in Ministry of Economics and Finance said.

Vaqef Behrouzi told IRNA on Saturday afternoon that United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which publishes world investment report annually, has declared that Iran ranked six in absorbing foreign investment in the world.

Behrouzi said that Iran absorbed more than three billion and 16 million dollars foreign investment until July 2010 and added that considering world financial crisis and imposed sanctions against Iran, such a figure indicated Iran’s abilities for investment.

Referring to the fierce competition among countries to absorb foreign investment, the official stressed that according to information and statistics published by UNCTAD, Iran had been able to have a growth rate of 86 percent in absorbing foreign investment, while the average growth of other countries has been negative 37 percent.

Behrouzi, who is in Bandar Abbas to attend inauguration ceremony to open Hormozgan investment service center said that 10 provinces were praised here for their success in the field of absorbing foreign investment and Hormozgan ranked fifth among them.
