Iran aid distributed among needy Palestinian families in Gaza

reportint20130807135325473Iranian charity organization, the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation, has distributed 40,000 packages of foodstuff among impoverished Palestinian families in the besieged Gaza Strip during the holy month of Ramadan, Press TV reports.

The aid packages, valued at USD two million, were delivered to Palestinians in various districts of the Gaza Strip, particularly the refugee camps.

A large portion of the aid was delivered to the homes of needy Gazan families with some Palestinians picking their share at distribution centers.

“We thank the Islamic Republic of Iran for its generous support, especially during the month of Ramadan. Iran has always stood by the Palestinian people and aided them, and continues to give a helping hand to the oppressed people of Palestine,” one of the organizers of the food aid distribution in the Gaza Strip said.

He added, “The 40,000 food parcels had a big impact on the needy people in the Gaza because an average Gazan family is made up of 10 people. Nearly half a million Gazans were able to have good food on their tables, thanks to the aid supplied by the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation.”

“I want to extend my deepest thanks to our brothers in Iran because their aid has made a positive change in our lives during the month of Ramadan. Iran is a great nation and has always helped the needy. I know that the God will reward them because of their good deeds,” a recipient of the aid told Press TV.

The Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation, founded in March 1979, is a Tehran-based charity organization, and provides support for poor families in Iran and several other Muslim countries. The aim is to help such families regain financial stability.

Gaza has been blockaded since June 2007, which is a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

The apartheid regime of Israel denies about 1.7 million people in Gaza their basic rights, such as freedom of movement, jobs that pay proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education.

In late July, Iran dispatched a consignment of humanitarian aid, consisting of 4,000 packages of foodstuff, to Lebanon to be distributed among displaced Palestinians living in twelve refugee camps in the Arab country.
