Iran, Argentina Continue Discussions on Amia Case

A1128786Iranian and Argentinean Foreign Ministers Ali Akbar Salehi and Hector Marcos Timerman continued their discussions regarding the 1994 bombing at the Amia Jewish center, an Iranian spokesman announced on Wednesday.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said that the meeting between Salehi and Timerman was held on Thursday, January 3, in Zurich, Switzerland.

“Resolving the two sides’ dispute over Amia case was the central issue in talks between foreign ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Argentina and the discussions were held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere,” Mehman-Parast said.

He added that Iran welcomes continuation of talks, and expressed the hope that the talks would yield the two countries’ desirable results in the near future.

Earlier this November, the two top diplomats had conferred on the results of the two-day legal experts’ talks held over bombing at the Amia Jewish center, an event that certain western states allegedly accuse Iran for orchestrating it.

Salehi and Timerman declared satisfaction with legal talks between the two countries’ experts on Amia case.

The two officials discussed the latest developments regarding the Amia issue by phone at the time.

In October, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that transparent talks between Tehran and Bones Aires over the 1994 bombing at the Amia Jewish center will reveal the realities and pave the ground for the improvement of the relations between the two counties.

“The two (Iranian and Argentine) foreign ministers recently met and agreed to coordinate the rest of the path. We think studying this issue should definitely result in transparency and finding the reality,” the Iranian president told the media in a press conference in Tehran at the time.

“I am sure that when investigations take place in an accurate and impartial manner, then the grounds will be prepared for the expansion of ties between Iran and Argentina,” Ahmadinejad stressed.

The US and Israeli rulers accuse Iran of bombing a Buenos Aires Jewish center in 1994, killing 84 people. But 18 years of effort have failed to advance the case or prove anything against Iran, indicating that Iran is innocent.
