Iran attends TRACECA forum in Georgia

Iran has participated in the international forum of TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia), which hosted representatives from 13 Asian and European countries.

Shahriar Afandi-Zadeh, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, led the Iranian delegation to the event, which was held in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi from September 4 to 6, 2011, IRNA reported on Thursday.

TRACECA is a European Union-sponsored commission that went to work in 2000 and aims to promote the development of regional dialogue on transportation and ensure the efficiency and reliability of Euro-Asian transportation links.

Facilitating commodity transit, increasing transportation capacity, and adjusting common trade tariffs between the European and Asian countries were among the topics discussed during the forum.

Also attending the event were representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Romania.
