Iran backs NAM in fighting unemployment

Iranian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Abdolreza Sheikholeslami has voiced Tehran’s support for the Non-Aligned Movement’s (NAM) plans to tackle the global unemployment crisis.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran supports the plans … aimed at realization of different goals of the movement (NAM), including the Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization and [plans] to avert the global unemployment crisis and develop job opportunities for the youth,” Sheikholeslami as saying on Thursday.

The senior Iranian official was addressing the 100th session of the International Labor Conference in Geneva, which started on June 1 and will last until June 17.

Representatives of 183 member states of the International Labor Organization (ILO) meet at the conference annually. The ILO is a UN body responsible for drawing up and overseeing international labor standards.

Sheikholeslami, made Iran’s support contingent upon proper assignment of duties to the relevant international organizations and allocation of adequate financial resources for every one of the planned purposes.

The Iranian minister pointed out that achievement of these goals require “political determination,” “adequate financial resources,” and “active participation” of all the member states.
