Iran can neutralize nuclear facilities sabotage: Ahmadinejad

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Iran is “capable of avoiding and neutralizing” efforts to sabotage the country’s nuclear energy facilities.

He made the remarks during a press conference after addressing the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Iranian Intelligence Ministry set up an exhibition of the Western intelligence services’ “industrial sabotage” against the Islamic Republic. The exhibition showcased industrial pieces, produced by famous companies and tampered by the US and Israeli intelligence services to stop functioning or explode at a specific time.

On Sunday, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of Iran’s Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said that the country’s intelligence and security officials had discovered explosive materials in German-made Siemens nuclear industry equipment that had been sold to Iran.

The United States, Israel, and some of their allies accuse Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran rejects the allegations, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence showing that Iran’s civilian nuclear program has been diverted to nuclear weapons production.

President Ahmadinejad also noted the possibility of future talks between Tehran and Washington.

“We are ready for a dialogue [with the US] and a resolution of problems. …we have never had any problems with the people of the United States,” he said.
