Iran caretaker FM visits Turkey

Iran’s caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi left Tehran for a one-day visit to Ankara to meet with his Turkish counterpart ahead of multifaceted talks between the country and the P5+1.

Salehi plans on discussing the upcoming meeting of Iran and the P5+1 — Britain, China, France, Russia and the US plus Germany — as well as other regional developments.

Iran and the P5+1 representatives held their previous round of multifaceted talks in Geneva on December 6 and 7, during which both sides agreed to hold the next round of negotiations in the Turkish city of Istanbul on January 21 and 22.

EU foreign policy Chief Catherine Ashton visited Turkey to discuss next week’s multifaceted talks between the P5+1 and Iran on Thursday. She said that the EU hopes to see progress in the multifaceted talks next week.

Although Turkey will not be directly involved in this round of negotiations, the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu expressed hope that the Istanbul talks would be constructive and that progress would be made.
