Iran Cmdr. details military promptness

A senior Iranian commander says the doctrine, stipulated for the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces, holds that any threat should be responded to immediately in proportion to the type of the threat.

“The doctrine, defined for and circulated to the Armed Forces, [which is] in such a way that the Armed Forces are obliged to abide by it, is that we should respond to any threat immediately in proportion to the type of the threat,” the Deputy Commander of Iran’s Armed Forces Chiefs of Staff, Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri told Fars News Agency while in the western Iran province of Hamedan, the agency reported on Wednesday.

“Necessary preparations are in place for this measure meaning that the Islamic Republic of Iran Army and the [Islamic Revolution] Guard Corps possess the necessary and sufficient preparedness for the implementation of the doctrine,” he added.

Jazayeri said a lot of training has taken place in this regard, especially concerning the defense of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

The comments came as Iran has started the third day of a massive seven-day-long military drill, codenamed Modafe’an-e Aseman-e Velayat 4 (Defenders of the Velayat Skies 4) and involving the country’s Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps. The third day began with low-altitude missile and artillery systems firing at mock enemy aircraft.

Iran has repeatedly stated that its military might poses no threat to other countries, reiterating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
