Iran condemns bomb attack in Russia

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has condemned a deadly terrorist attack at Moscow’s busiest airport in which dozens were killed and scores hurt.

Mehmanparast also extended condolences to the relatives of the victims and the Russian government, the foreign ministry said in a press release on Monday.

At least 35 people were killed and 130 others injured on Monday in the bomb blast which targeted Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport.

The airport is 40 km (25 miles) southeast of the city center, and is popular with foreign workers and tourists flying into the city.

“According to preliminary information, the explosive device was set off by a suicide bomber in the international departures hall,” Interfax news agency quoted the unnamed security source as saying.

People were evacuated from the airport following large amounts of smoke rose up near a baggage carousel.

Moscow police have stepped up security across the city after the explosion.

Following the incident, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered special security measures be taken across the country’s transport hubs.

Medvedev has postponed his visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos, planned for this week, in the wake of the blast, Kremlin has announced.

On March 29 last year, 40 were killed and over 100 wounded in a twin bombing at Moscow’s metro.
