Iran Condemns Terrorist Attack in Nigeria

“Based on its principled and everlasting policy, the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns any type of violence, extremism and terrorist acts, specially the recent inhuman act in Nigeria’s Yobe state, and favors peace, tranquility and security for the Nigerian nation,” Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said in a statement on Wednesday.

Suspected Boko Haram Wahhabists on Tuesday opened fire on a student hostel at a secondary school in Nigeria’s troubled Northeastern Yobe state, the military said.

“There was an attack at the Federal Government College (in the town of) Buni Yadi around 2:00 am (01:00 GMT),” Lazarus Eli, military spokesman in Yobe state, said on Tuesday.

The gunmen “opened fire on student hostels”, he added.

The Wahhabi Islam, preached by Saudi Arabia, pursues an extremist view of the religion. A majority of the militants fighting in Syria, Libya, Pakistan and other crisis-hit Mideast nations are of the same sect.
