Iran defense systems monitor Strait of Hormuz 24 hours

The Strait of Hormuz, the vein of oil from the Persian Gulf to outside world, is under Iran’s 24 hour sophisticated defense system observation, Commander of Iranian Army Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base, Brigadier-General Farzad Ismaili said on Wednesday.

He made the remarks in the meeting with directors of Iranian private air companies including Iran Air officials.

He said that the Strait of Hormuz is the route for oil shipment from the Persian Gulf and that Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base is monitoring the vein of the Persian Gulf oil in line with defense preferences of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Elaborating on the significance of air defense system and the need to monitor the sky of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said that German Chancellor Angela Merkel airplane could not pass from Iranian sky because it did not have flight clearance beforehand.

Ismaili underlined that any flying object which enters into the Iranian sky without clearance would be destroyed immediately.

He said that Iran has currently 100 air routes and corridors and that Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base is ready to study requests to add new air corridors to the current ones.

The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow, strategically important waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman in the southeast.

The Strait at its narrowest is 54 kilometers wide. It is the only sea passage to the open ocean for large areas of the petroleum-exporting Persian Gulf.

Iran has warned that it would close the strategic Strait of Hormuz in case of any military threat.
