Iran demands tough UN action on Israel

Iran’s foreign diplomacy chief has called on the UN secretary-general to get tough on the Zionist regime of Israel to put an end to its crimes.

En route to Brussels Tuesday morning, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki asked Ban Ki-moon over the phone to take firm action in dealing with the Israeli brutal attack on the Gaza aid convoy.

Ban, for his part, said he had been shocked over the Israeli killing of a number of peace activists on board the ships, and called on the UN Security Council to seriously follow up the issue to the end.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Mottaki pointed to Iran’s pivotal role in the NPT Review Conference, and called for the implementation, to the letter, of the treaty.

Referring to the Tehran Declaration where Iran has given the thumbs up to nuclear fuel swap, Mottaki underscored the Security Council has adopted a confrontational stance on the issue which will have its own repercussions.

The top Iranian diplomat then called on Ban to take the right course of action to secure the release of innocent Iranians imprisoned in the United States.
