Iran dismisses reports about attack on its embassy in Yemen

Iran has dismissed reports about an attack on its embassy in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a during clashes between Houthi Ansarullah fighters and forces loyal to former president, Ali Abdullah Saleh.

“We have received no report on this issue,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.

He added that the Iranian embassy in Sana’a was located in the area where clashes had occurred and it might have only been damaged by shrapnel.

The spokesperson rejected reports that the embassy’s staff had been wounded in the attack, saying, “We have no employees at our embassy.”

Qassemi made the remarks in reaction to earlier reports saying that a rocket projectile had hit the Iranian embassy in Sana’a on Sunday afternoon during clashes between the Houthis and loyalists of Saleh.

According to the reports, it was unclear which side of the clashes owned the rocket projectile and whether it was an intentional attack.

Yemen’s Interior Ministry issued a statement on Monday confirming the death of Saleh, adding that that conflicts, which had plagued Sana’a during past days, were over after the death of the former president.
