Iran distressed by Moscow bombing

Iran’s president has offered his condolences over the terrorist attack that killed and injured scores of people at Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport.

At least 35 people were killed and another 130 people injured after a massive explosion ripped through the international arrivals hall of Domodedovo Airport on Monday.

In a message to his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev on Tuesday, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad extended his condolences to the Russian government and nation.

We were saddened and distressed by reports of the terrorist attack at Moscow’s airport, which left some of your countrymen and also citizens from other countries dead and injured, Ahmadinejad said.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a victim of terrorist attacks, always condemns such brutal terrorist actions, the Iranian president added.

The airport is 40 km (25 miles) southeast of the city center, and is popular with foreign workers and tourists flying into the city.

Reports say that 76 injured people remain in hospital and many of those wounded are in critical condition.

Medvedev has pledged to launch an investigation into the deadly attack.

He said a commission of inquiry would carry out an investigation in order to find out more information about the blast.
