Iran donates half of relief aid to PRCS

Iran says it has donated fifty percent of all the humanitarian aid delivered to Pakistan’s Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to help the country’s flood victims.

President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Abolhassan Faqih said in a press conference on Monday that the IRCS has provided half of the total relief aid donated to PRCS.

The official further pointed out that the IRCS has so far sent 18 shipments to Pakistan.

The relief supplies mainly include tents, blankets, food and medicine, he went on to say.

Faqih stated that Iran set up three camps in the flooded areas in the early hours of the disaster, adding that the number of camps Iran has so far set up in Balochistan, Punjab and Sindh provinces totals 16.

He noted that the IRCS would increase the number of relief camps in flooded areas once the flood waters subside.

The Islamic Republic was among the first countries to dispatch relief supplies to Pakistan, which has been grappling with hunger, lack of hygiene and the threat of an epidemic since it was hit with massive floods.

More than 20 million Pakistanis have been affected by the floods since July.
