Iran: ECO’s expansion boosts security

Iran’s Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar urges a comprehensive expansion of ties among member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

ECO members must cooperate and coordinate efforts to expand economic, trade, security and political relations among member states, said Mohammad-Najjar in a meeting with heads of participating delegations at the second summit of ECO’s High Level Expert Group (HLEG) in Tehran on Wednesday, IRNA reported.

The Iranian minister cited the war on organized terrorism, drug and human trafficking and money laundering as part of required measures that can improve the level of security among ECO member states.

He reiterated that the security of the region depended on ECO’s security, calling on the members to spare no efforts to develop the stature of ECO.

Earlier, in the opening day of the summit on Monday, Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Law Enforcement Affairs Ali Abdollahi called on all ECO members to confront organized crimes in the entire region.

The second HLEG summit was held in the Iranian capital of Tehran on November 1-2.
