With Iraq liberated, Hashd Al-Shaabi shifts attention to ISIS in Syria

Iraq has been officially cleansed of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) after more than three years of intense fighting and terrorism.

With Iraq cleared, Hashd Al-Sha’abi (Popular Mobilization Units) has shifted their attention to the Syrian front, where they hope to eliminate the last remnants of the Islamic State between the two countries.

According to a Syrian military source in Damascus, Hashd Al-Sha’abi and their allies from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), Hezbollah, and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are currently on the offensive in the southwestern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

Hashd Al-Sha’abi played a major role in the major advance in the Deir Ezzor advance, Sunday, which saw the Islamic State lose more than 2,000 square kilometers of territory along the Homs Governorate axis.

The Iraqi paramilitary is currently working to secure the Syrian government’s primary route to Baghdad from the T-2 Pumping Station area.
