Iran and Pakistan have discussed leading issues pertaining to mutual relations as well as regional and international developments, particularly the conflicts in the Middle East.

In a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Thursday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed the importance of settling the ongoing crises in the region especially the issue of the humanitarian catastrophe caused as a result of the continuing air campaign against Yemen.

Zarif, who arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday for a two-day visit, urged countries to refrain from becoming involved in the aggression against Yemen.

Saudi Arabia’s military aggression against Yemen started on March 26, without a UN mandate, in a bid to restore power to the former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Several hundred Yemenis have so far been killed and many more injured in the Saudi attacks.

The UN says at least 74 children have been killed since the beginning of the Saudi-led strikes. The real figure is thought to be much higher. The turmoil has forced over 100,000 people from their homes.

The Iranian minister and Pakistani premier further urged regional countries to strengthen their cooperation and solve the ongoing problems in the region and Muslim world through peaceful approaches.

Zarif and Sharif also emphasized the significance of bolstering Tehran-Islamabad ties in various fields, particularly in trade and economic sectors.
