Iran: Funding sedition, not new issue

Iran says the financial support that “leaders of sedition” received is not a matter of election or post-election unrest, it started years ago.

“This funding was provided by NGOs and organizations that cooperated with them over the past years,” Iranian Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi told Fars news agency on Tuesday.

According to Moslehi, the organizations and NGOs started their financial support in the past and intended to achieve results in Iran’s 2009 presidential election.

Earlier last week, the Iranian intelligence minister confirmed a billion dollar aid to the “leaders of sedition” by certain states during the post-election unrest.

“Yes. This matter is true. You can even expect much more than that,” Moslehi said last Thursday.

He further pointed out that anti-revolutionary attempts within the country, as well as countries which backed “the sedition leaders,” made efforts to topple the Islamic establishment.

The issue of foreign financial support for post-election unrest was first made known to the public by the Head of the Guardian Council, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, in late July when he said that he possessed documents proving that the Americans had provided the “leaders of sedition” with one billion dollars through Saudi channels.

“I have acquired documents showing that the Americans paid one billion dollars to leaders of sedition through Saudi individuals who are currently the US agents in regional countries,” Jannati said.
