Iran holds funeral for terror victim

A funeral procession is being held for Iranian academic Majid Shahriari, who was assassinated in a terrorist attack in Tehran on Monday.

The Iranian scientist was targeted by a bomb attached to his automobile by unknown terrorists on a moving motorcycle as he was on his way to Shahid Beheshti University, where he was a professor.

Shahriari’s wife, who was accompanying him at the time of the attack, narrowly escaped death with injuries.

In a similar attack on another lecturer the same day, the terrorists attached a bomb to the vehicle of Professor Fereydoun Abbasi, another academic with the University of Shahid Beheshti. Abbasi and his wife, who was riding with him in the car, managed to escape the incident with minor injuries, as he was reportedly alarmed when the bomb was attached to his automobile.

Iranian officials have pointed the finger of blame at the US and Israel, likening the terrorist operation to terror tactics commonly employed by Tel Aviv’s notorious terror squads.

Following the incident, Iranian lawmakers condemned the move and called on Iranian security and intelligence apparatus to wage a thorough effort to identify perpetrators of the terror attacks.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has pointed to a possible connection between recent remarks of a senior official of the British intelligence agency (MI6) on Iran’s nuclear program and the new position of the European Parliament in attempting to remove an anti-Iran terrorist group from an international black list.

On October 28, MI6 Director John Sawers expressed concerns about Iran’s civilian nuclear program and called for the need to engage in clandestine efforts to challenge and halt Iranian nuclear progress.
