‘Iran hopeful talks with IAEA will yield positive results’

Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has expressed hope that Tehran’s upcoming talks with the UN nuclear agency will yield positive results.

According to Press TV, Mehmanparast said on Wednesday: “The last round of talks between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA] was good and both sides described it as positive and constructive.”
He added: “We hope to reach good agreements in the next round of negotiations”, adding that recognizing Iran’s nuclear rights, however, is necessary for negotiations to yield positive results.

Following the meeting, IAEA Deputy Director General Herman Nackaerts said progress had been made during the talks, adding that more negotiations are due with Iran on January 16.
The Iranian official said, however, if IAEA representatives ignore the Islamic Republic’s nuclear rights, talks will not reach a positive result.
Mehmanparast stated that Iran is ready to allay any concern the IAEA might have and clear ambiguities.
Commenting on talks between Tehran and the G5+1 (Britain, China, France, Russia, and the US plus Germany), Mehmanparast said, “We are always ready for logical, effective and constructive talks which recognize the rights of independent nations including Iran.”
The Iranian official said some members of the G5+1, however, mistakenly think that if they mount pressures on Tehran they can force the country to forgo its rights.
The United States, Zionist regime and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
Iran notes that as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
