Iran- IKCO to mass-produce Runna sedans

Iran Khodro Co. (IKCO) has announced that its second domestically-manufactured car, Runna, will hit national and international markets in near future.

“We plan to produce 50 thousands sets of Runna sedans this year and the figure can run up to 200 thousands a year,” said IKCO Deputy CEO in strategy and planning Hamid-Reza Taqavinejad.

The leading Iranian automaker says the new low-cost vehicle will be powered by TU5 and EF7 engines that meet Euro IV standard requirements.

According to IKCO, Runna enjoys front seat airbags and ABS, and meets the required safety standards for driver and passengers.

The IKCO Runna will hit Iranian, Middle Eastern, Russian, Turkish, African and South American markets.

The car has already gone through the first pre-production phase and has successfully passed 80 percent of related tests.

IKCO says the second pre-production phase will begin in late January and the car will be mass-produced in May 2012.

Founded in 1962, IKCO is currently the biggest automaker in the Middle East, which broke its monthly production record by producing 75,871 cars in November, 2011.

The Iranian company was awarded at Tehran’s 2010 International Nanotechnology Festival as the leading company in nano-related auto industry.
