Iran-Iraq judicial cooperation will expand

2672396-3819188Iranˈs Justice Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi who is in Iraq at the invitation of his Iraqi counterpart, Hassan al-Shammari discussed issues of mutual interest in legal and judicial fields.

They signed a memorandum of understating on extradition of prisoners.

Based on the agreement, the Iranian and Iraqi justice ministries will set up a joint committee at the earliest to examine the situation of the prisoners and prepare the ground for their extradition.

The prisoners will serve their prison terms in their own countries.

In the meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, Pour-Mohammadi explored the ways to expand judicial cooperation, organizing cross-border travel, tackling illegal entries, determining the fate of detainees and non-convicts as well as development of economic, tourism and pilgrimage capacities.

Al-Shammari, for his part, hailed Iranˈs determination to support the Iraqi stability and security as well as the democratic process.

He voiced the Iraqi governmentˈs readiness to help promote bilateral ties in all fields of justice administration, economy, commerce and tourism.

Meanwhile, Pour-Mohammadi is slated to confer with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Speaker of Parliament Osama Nujaifi and Head of Supreme Judiciary Council Medhat Mahmoud during his stay in Baghdad.
