Iran, Iraq sign MoU to enhance defense cooperation

pirhayati20130926141122827Iran and Iraq have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost defense cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

The MoU was signed by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and his visiting Iraqi counterpart, Saadoun al-Dulaimi, in Tehran on Thursday.

The two senior military officials described the expansion of Tehran-Baghdad defense cooperation as an important factor in promoting and consolidating peace and stability in the region.

In addition, they reviewed the previous agreements regarding Iran’s preparedness to strengthen the Iraqi army.

On September 24, Dehqan expressed Iran’s readiness to equip and strengthen the Iraqi armed forces, saying the Middle Eastern countries are capable of maintaining regional security without foreign help.

Dulaimi arrived in Tehran on September 23 at the head of a high-ranking delegation to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on bilateral defense cooperation and leading regional and international issues.
