Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has described the Islamic Republic’s defensive missile capabilities as the best in the region.

“In the field of missile [technology], Iran is the best in the region and is among the best [in this regard] in the world,” ISNA quoted Vahid as saying on Wednesday.

“Successful production of [the short-, medium- and long-range] missiles Shahab (Meteor) and Sejjil (Baked Clay), Saqeb (Bright) and Sayyad (Hunter), Fateh (Conqueror) and Zelzal (Temblor), Misaq (Covenant) and Ra’ad (Thunder), and Toufan (Storm) and Safar (Journey) are testaments to this success,” he added.

Tehran has repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

Vahidi stressed that Iran’s missile capability is part of the [Iranian] defense industries defensive strategy and doctrine.

“Therefore, the defense industries based on the doctrine, aside from localizing missile know-how and technology, through currently producing more than 50 important missile products.. have enhanced the deterrence capability of the Armed Forces in proportion to threats.”
