Iranian lawmakers have condemned Saudi airstrikes against Yemen, urging the international community to fulfill its duty to support the impoverished country against military aggression.

In a statement released on Wednesday, 210 lawmakers denounced the Saudi “unfair” airstrikes against Yemen, which resulted in the killing of defenseless civilians as well as the destruction of Yemen’s infrastructure, and said the military aggression was backed by the US and Israel.

They said that the Saudi aggression against Yemen further revealed the true colors of hegemonic powers and their stooges, and proved the kingdom’s animosity toward Muslims.

The Iranian lawmakers said that the Yemeni people will emerge victorious in the war against their country.

Saudi Arabia started its military aggression against Yemen on March 26 — without a UN mandate — in a bid to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who is a close ally of Riyadh.

On Tuesday, Saudi government spokesman Brigadier General Ahmed al-Assiri said in a televised broadcast that Riyadh ended the so-called Operation Decisive Storm upon a request by the Yemeni government and Hadi.

He claimed that Saudi Arabia had achieved its military goals in Yemen, adding that it would launch a second phase of its aggression dubbed “Restoring Hope”.

On Wednesday, Saudi fighter jets pounded areas in the Yemeni provinces of Sana’a and Sa’ada.

According to Yemeni health ministry, more than 950 people have been killed since Saudi Arabia started its aggression in late March. Around 3,900 people have also been wounded during the aggression.
