Iran Navy capable of providing domestic security: Iran Defense Min.

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says the Islamic Republic’s Navy is capable of providing security and defending the country’s maritime boundaries.

Vahidi noted on Thursday that the Islamic Republic’s Navy is equipped with modern and domestically-built surface and subsurface vessels.

The defense minister referred to the recently launched Ghadir-class light submarines, saying that Iran’s Defense Ministry is responsible for providing the country’s armed forces with necessary equipment and will spare no effort in this regard.

Two upgraded versions of the indigenously-built Ghadir-class light submarines and two overhauled hovercrafts were launched during a ceremony on November 28.

The Ghadir submarine was first unveiled in 2007. The 120-ton vessel has excellent shallow-depth performance, and can carry out long-term coastal missions.

The Islamic Republic has so far launched different classes of advanced submarines including Fateh, Ghadir, Qaem and Nahang.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in essential military equipment and systems.

Tehran has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
