Iran Navy receives domestically-built Qadir cruise missiles

Iran’s Navy has officially received domestically-manufactured anti-ship cruise missiles dubbed Qadir.

Qadir missiles were handed over to Iran’s Navy during a ceremony attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, the commander of Iran’s Navy, on Sunday.

​“The Qadir missile, which has been designed and manufactured by scientists and experts of the [Iranian] Defense Ministry’s Aerospace Industries Organization, was handed over to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Navy for the first time,” Dehqan said.

He added that the long-range missile has such features as a rapid response capability, the ability to fly at low altitude, high precision, high destructive power and a capability of being employed in anti-electronic war.

Dehqan emphasized that Iran’s enemies are aware of the country’s deterrent power and will never dare make any move against the interests of the Islamic Republic.

On March 14, Iran started mass production of the Qadir cruise missile after it was unveiled on August 24, 2014 in a ceremony with President Hassan Rouhani and the defense chief in attendance.

Addressing the ceremony, Sayyari said the Qadir missile would certainly increase the combat power of the Iranian naval forces.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and reached self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

Iran has repeatedly assured other countries that its military might poses no threat to other states, insisting that the country’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
