Iran not meddling in neighboring Iraq

Iran’s Ambassador to Baghdad Hassan Danaei-far has rejected allegations of Iran’s interference in Iraq, describing them as part of efforts to harm Iran-Iraq relations.

“We do not interfere in Iraq’s internal affairs at all,” Danaei-far told ISNA on Saturday.

The Iranian envoy said that certain Arab countries in the region, along with the US, had raised such allegations against Tehran, adding that the accusations were part of a psychological war against the Islamic Republic.

“They are seeking to disrupt Iran-Iraq relations,” he said, adding, “Those alleging that Iran is interfering in Iraq’s affairs are themselves meddling in the country.”

He pointed out that all Iraqi officials and parties maintain that Iraq should have “deep strategic relations” with the Islamic Republic since the security of the two countries is interrelated.

Danaei-far reiterated that Iran was doing its best to help restore Iraq’s security.

He also called for the development of ties, in particular, economic cooperation, between the two neighboring countries.

Iran rejects allegations that it funds and supports terrorists to create instability in Iraq, reiterating that it attaches great importance to the security of its neighbors as instability in Iraq would affect Iran’s security.

Iran blames insecurity in Iraq on the US-led invasion of the Middle Eastern country.

Over one million Iraqis have met violent deaths as a result of the 2003 invasion, according to a study conducted by the prestigious British polling group, Opinion Research Business (ORB).
