Ahmadinejad UN visit very important: Official

Iranian Deputy Interior Minister Seyyed Solat Mortazavi says the presence of Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the 67th United Nations General Assembly is very important in the current situation.

“Mr. President has left for the UN with full hands and will definitely pose questions that have many eager listeners in the international community,” Mortazavi told IRNA on Sunday.

The Iranian official went on to say that Ahmadinejad attends the meeting not only as Iran’s president, but also as the president of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Mortazavi stated that today’s world is about to see a major economic and political development and as time passes, people become more aware of the exploitation of the capitalist system.

The Islamic Awakening, on the other hand, has affected the political geography of Islamic countries and brought various challenges upon the global arrogance, he added.

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in New York on Sunday to participate in the 67th session of the UN General Assembly.

Ahmadinejad is scheduled to address the session on Wednesday and elaborate on the Islamic Republic’s stance on key international issues.

On the sidelines of the session, he will also meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and hold talks with senior officials from the participating countries, UN figures, heads of regional and global organizations, American university professors and students, religious leaders and Iranian nationals in the US.

This is Ahmadinejad’s eighth trip to New York for a UN General Assembly session since first becoming president back in 2005.
