Iran-Oman Joint Military Committee Wraps Up Work in Tehran

Senior Iranian and Omani military officials ended a two-day meeting on mutual cooperation on Tuesday.

The last round of talks between the two countries’ ranking commanders ended in Tehran today.

The last session of the 10th Iran-Oman Joint Military Committee meeting was dedicated to the finalization of a draft agreement introduced to the committee yesterday.

Addressing the session, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces for Operational Affairs Brigadier General Mostafa Salami hoped that the agreement would further enhance bilateral military ties and cooperation between the two Persian Gulf littoral states.

Assistant Chief of Staff of Oman’s Armed Forces Rashed Bin Seif Bin Al-Rashidi, who headed the Omani side in the meeting, also praised Iran’s enthusiasm for cooperation with his country, saying that the attitude “signifies our friendship and brotherhood”.

He said the Omani delegation’s talks with Iranian commanders were “fruitful and served both countries’ interests”.

Over the last few years, Iran and Oman have expanded military ties and cooperation specially over security in the Persian Gulf.

The two countries signed a security agreement in August 2009.

Later in August 2010, the two Persian Gulf states signed an agreement to further boost mutual cooperation in the field of defense.

A few months later in December, the Iranian parliament approved a bill that allows Tehran to implement an agreement on security cooperation and coordination with Oman.
