Director of Iranian Space Agency Mohsen Bahrami said the country is planning to launch its “Friendship” telecommunication satellite into orbit later this year.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Bahrami said Iran’s space program is indigenous and no one has any say in it except for the Iranian nation.

“The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has once again decided to resume the national space program. Iran’s return to its global position in the aerospace industry is legitimate and a correct move,” he added.

According to Bahrami, the nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 paved the way for greater cooperation with other nations in the aerospace industry, which is needed to expand and modernize the Iranian aerospace industry.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Mahmoud Vaezi said Iran is also planning to launch two national remote sensing and telecommunication satellites by 2025.

“The telecommunication satellite will be put into orbit by a domestically developed launcher and carrier, Vaezi said earlier this year.

“Indigenization of space technologies is the main focus of the Iranian Space Agency,” the minister noted.

Also, Vaezi said high on the agenda would be cooperation with major global partners active in the aerospace industry to supply components required for the manufacturing of the satellites and initial talks have already being held.
