Iran Proposes Muslim States to Set up Joint Military Power
Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi proposed the formation of a NATO-like military organization by the Islamic states to defend the interests of the Muslims across the world.

“The organization will be tasked with defending Muslims around the world and its most important agenda will be the Palestinian issue,” Vahidi said in Tehran on Saturday.

He underlined Iran’s astonishing progress in manufacturing different military equipments and weapons and its readiness to provide Islamic states with them, and said, “We have said several times that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s achievements belong to all Muslims.”

Iran has also taken wide strides in designing and manufacturing different types of light, semi-heavy and heavy weapons, military tools and equipment. Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country’s military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.
