An official with the governorship of Karbala province, Iraq, said the Islamic Republic of Iran is helping to provide extensive services to the Shia pilgrims heading to Karbala.

Iran Provides Iraq with Help to Serve Arbaeen Pilgrims

Jasim al-Fatlawi said Iran has sent buses to facilitate transpiration in the holy city of Karbala, adding that a 61-strong team of medics with Iran’s Red Crescent Society have also arrived to serve the pilgrims.

The municipality of Qazvin, a city 150 kilometers west of Tehran, has also sent 60 garbage trucks and set up six stations in Karbala to collect garbage and keep the city clean, al-Alam news agency reported.

This comes as millions of Shia Muslims from across the globe are making their way toward the holy city of Karbala to commemorate Arbaeen.

Arbaeen, which falls on December 13 this year, marks 40 days after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia Imam.

Imam Hussein (AS) and 72 of his loyal companions, including family members, were martyred on the day of Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram, in the battle of Karbala against the second Umayyad caliph, Yazid I, in 680 A.D. Imam Hussein (AS) was martyred after he refused to pledge allegiance to the tyrant ruler.
