Iran, Qatar call for Muslim unity

Iran and Qatar have stressed the necessity of amity and affinity among Muslim states in the face of enemy endeavors to create rift among the followers of Islam.

In a Monday meeting in Tehran, visiting Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad emphasized the importance of vigilance among regional states in order to strengthen unity and cooperation, IRNA reported.

“Iran and Qatar’s cooperation can help regional countries to flourish and will ensure regional security and stability,” the Iranian president said.

President Ahmadinejad said that regional states must pave the way for regional peace, progress and welfare through strengthening their relations.

Al Thani, for his part, said Tehran and Doha relations have been broadened over the past years, adding that broader cooperation between the two states can guarantee peace and stability in the region.

“Although their (enemy) efforts to create such a discord [among Muslims] have failed so far, regional countries must increase cooperation in a bid to strengthen amity and affinity”, Al Thani said.

The Qatari emir arrived in Tehran Monday morning at the head of a high-ranking delegation for a one-day visit. He was slated to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on bilateral relations and latest regional developments.
