Iran ready to help Lebanon fight crime

Iran is ready to cooperate with Lebanon on combating organized crimes and narcotics trafficking, the Iranian ambassador to Beirut says.

Ghazanfar Roknabadi made the remark in a meeting with Lebanon’s Chief of Police General Ashraf Rifi on Monday, Mehr news agency reported.

Given Iran’s achievements in fighting crime and drug trafficking, the Islamic Republic is ready to supply Lebanon with the required expertise, the Iranian envoy said.

Roknababadi also thanked the Lebanese official for providing high security during Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to the country last month.

General Rifi went on to say that President Ahmadinejad’s visit to Lebanon had had a positive impact on the security situation in the country.

The police chief added that he was ready to visit Iran and explore ways to further expand ties between the two countries.

The Iranian president paid a two-day official visit to Lebanon in October at the invitation of his Lebanese counterpart Michel Sleiman.

During his visit, President Ahmadinejad met and held talks with senior Lebanese officials and political figures to discuss regional issues as well as bilateral ties.
