Iran refined gas output increases

Iran’s deputy oil minister says while the country has not introduced new refineries, gas out put has increased by 21 percent.

Javad Owji attributed the output increase to the changes made to the Fajr-e Jam and Bidboland-1 refineries.

The deputy minister said that the National Iranian Gas Company has managed to make use of the full potentials of domestic refineries, including those mentioned.

He added that constructing and operating a refinery with a daily output capacity of 25 million cubic meters of gas requires more than three years and at least USD 3 billion.

“By modifying Fajr-e Jam and Bidboland-1 we were able to increase our gas output capacity to 21 billion cubic meters without having to spend this time (three years) or money (three billion dollars),” he added.

The official pointed out that the country’s major industries consumed 14.2 billion cubic meters of gas last year.

Iran, which possesses the world’s second-largest gas reserves after Russia, has in recent years been expanding a transit network to export natural gas to many parts of the world.

South Pars is the largest known gas field in the world, located in the Persian Gulf. It holds an estimated 50.97 trillion cubic meters of natural gas.
