Iran, regional states can secure Persian Gulf: Iranian cmdr.

yasaman.hashemi20130101065637083Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari has reiterated that Iran, along with other regional countries, is fully capable of maintaining the security of the Persian Gulf region.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly announced that it is capable of establishing security in this vital and strategic region, especially with the cooperation and coordination of regional countries,” Sayyari said on Tuesday.

“There is no need for the presence of trans-regional forces to secure the [Persian Gulf] region,” he added.

Sayyari further said that Iran’s naval forces enjoy high capabilities and seek to maintain their presence in international waters.

He went on to say that Iranian naval experts have achieved important breakthroughs in producing military equipment needed by the Navy.

Pointing to the ongoing Velayat 91 naval drills, Sayyari said the Iranian Naval forces have intensified their monitoring of trans-regional forces during the military exercises.

Iran’s Navy launched six-day naval maneuvers on December 28 in order to display the country’s capabilities to defend its maritime borders and maintain lasting peace in the region.

The specialized maritime maneuver covers an area from “east of the Strait of Hormuz in the Sea of Oman and north of the Indian Ocean as far as the 18th parallel north,” according to Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari.

Over the past few years, Iran has held several military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and equipment.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
