Iran rejects selling LNG at cut-rate prices

Iran Oil Ministry spokesman rejected selling LNG at cut-rate prices and said: “instead of selling liquefied natural gas (LNG) under market prices, we are managing the Oil and petroleum products in the marketplace.”

According to MNA, since the beginning of 2013, Iran has signed new contracts for exporting LNG to Asian and Persian Gulf countries.

In March last year, with the expansion operation of new refineries projects, particularly with the expansion of Shazand oil refinery, Iran LNG capacity has increased to more than 6000 metric tons per day.

And today we have over 1000 mt of petroleum products in excess capacity for exports.

Iran Oil Ministry spokesman said: “export of LNG from Iran to Korea have resumed after eight months suspension, so that by March 2013, South Korea has imported around 73000 mt of LNG from Iran.”

Alireza Nickzad Rahbar, during an interview with MNA, talked about the reasons for the increase in exports of Iran LNG to the world markets despite international sanctions, and said: “Iran is one of the world’s largest exporters of petroleum products and naturally for increase in petroleum products exports will do numerous marketing projects.”

Iran Oil Ministry spokesman regarding some foreign media reports about selling LNG at cut-rate prices to international clients, said: “Iran, is not selling LNG under market prices. Iran is managing the petroleum products market, instead of selling LNG in discount prices.”
