Iran seeks broader multilateral PG ties

0366efd853573b82d68883a74604aa5f_LIranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the Islamic Republic seeks to expand multilateral relations with the Persian Gulf countries.

The Iranian president made the remarks at an introductory meeting of the Persian Gulf Supreme Council held in Tehran on Sunday.
Ahmadinejad said, “Iran’s inevitable policy in the region is expansion…of multilateral…relations with the Persian Gulf countries”.
He stressed the importance of Persian Gulf in regional and international equations, adding “No government in Iran has ever sought insecurity in the Persian Gulf and Iran is the guarantor of security in the Persian Gulf.”
The president said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran’s national interests…serve the legitimate national interests of all nations and the Iranian nation seeks justice and brotherhood.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, who also attended the meeting, stressed the importance of economic and trade ties with the Persian Gulf states.
He said, “Any sort of insecurity and instability in the region would damage the economic expansion of all the regional countries,” he said.
Different issues regarding cultural, political, economic, and environmental fields were discussed at the meeting.
