Iran seeks integrated Asia energy market

Deputy speaker of Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) has underlined the necessity of setting up an Asian integrated energy market in a session in Russia’s capital city of Moscow.

Addressing the session of “Integrated Energy Market” subcommittee of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) on Thursday, Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabifard said such a market would meet the interests of West Asian energy producers and East Asian consumers.

He added that Asia was the biggest producer and consumer of energy in the world and its global position should match up to its energy capacities, IRNA reported.

Other participants emphasized on regional nations’ legal right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. They also urged countries with nuclear science to help Asian states with developing clean nuclear energy.

Meanwhile, Vice Speaker of Russia’s State Duma and the President of the Russian Gas Society Valery Yazov, who chaired the session declared his country’s readiness to hold an international conference on integrated energy market.

The international conference is slated to be held next year attended by experts and big oil and gas companies.

Aboutorabifard heads Iran’s delegation in the meeting of APA’s Economy and Sustainable Development Committee in Moscow.

The international meeting which started on September 20 is attended by representatives of 12 countries, including Russia, Iran, Turkey, Indonesia, and Afghanistan.
