Iran’s Majlis Speaker says the country believes there are no limits when it comes to the enhancement of ties with neighboring Iraq.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always stressed lasting relations between the two countries and sees no limits in its relations with Iraq,” said Ali Larijani in a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari in Tehran on Wednesday.

Age-old relations between the Iranian and Iraqi nations can contribute heavily to the further development of bilateral cordial relations, said the top parliamentarian.

Larijani further stated that Tehran is ready to expand its cooperation with Baghdad in energy, industrial and economic fields.

“There exists enormous potential in the energy and industry sectors in Iran that can be tapped to spur Iraq’s economic development within the framework of both countries’ national interests,” he added.

The top Iraqi diplomat, for his part, highlighted the significance of brotherly ties between the two nations, saying, “Relations between the two countries can contribute to Iraq’s strength and power.”

Zebari also had separate meetings with Iran’s First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri and Secretary of Iran Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani, where, among other issues, they discussed ways for expanding ties and relations between the two countries.

Zebari also sat down with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday.
